Everybody needs a little more rock in their life! Our brand new indoor Scratch Patch is designed around the rock life cycle and provides a great educational opportunity. But the best part of visiting the Scratch Patch is the chance to discover and collect your own polished stones.

Mineral World

The Scratch Patch features over 80 different varieties of semi-precious gemstones, including amethyst, citrine, tiger eye, agates, jaspers, and crystal quartz. You can use our Gemstone Chart (pdf) to help identify them.

Education

We’re really not happy unless our visitors learn something about our favourite subject! The Scratch Patch combines education with fun to make learning painless.

While collecting your own gemstones to take home, you can also:

  • See what the inside of a volcano looks like;
  • Learn how sedimentary rocks are created;
  • Discover rocks that float;
  • Figure out which metals affect a mineral’s color;
  • and Much more!

We welcome school groups with advanced bookings. Rates are $6.00 (+HST) per child, which includes an $8.00 Collector Bag + staff person to answer earth science and gemstone related questions. Please call 250-655-4367 for more information or to make your booking.
