Education

A visit to Mineral World’s Scratch Patch is a fun and educational experience for classes from Kindergarten to Grade 7 . Kids will get to  see what the inside of a volcano looks like, enjoy the sound of a babbling river, explore two caves and, of course, collect their own semi-precious gemstones!  The Scratch Patch is designed around the rock life cycle and focuses on Igneous, Sedimentary, and Metamorphic rock formation. Activity stations teach other principles related to rocks and minerals, including why some rocks float, how some will fluoresce and what causes different colours in minerals.

School groups with a minimum 15 students pay $6.00 + HST per child, which includes the $8.00 (Medium) Collector Bag and staff to answer questions, help identify stones, and make sure everyone is having a safe and enjoyable time. Accompanying grown-ups are admitted for free.

To assist teachers with lesson planning before and after their visit to the Scratch Patch, we provide the copy from our interepretive signage and activity stations here.  If you
